Nikon has recently
introduced two new professional digital SLR cameras, Nikon models
D1x and D1h. Both models include advanced capabilities for color
reproduction, white balance and precision exposure control, while
the D1x is optimized for superior image quality, and the D1h is
optimized for action photography, with continuous shooting up to
five frames per second, making it the fastest and most action-oriented
pro digital SLR available today. The new models were developed in
response to the needs of pro photographers who require the most
sophisticated technology for making pictures: image quality, image
management, creative color reproduction, superior file management
and file transmission. The D1x is optimized for higher resolution
and the more demanding image resolution requirements for high-tech,
publishing, scientific and other photography that requires extremely
high detail, whereas the D1h is designed for fast-action-based photography
and faster post-photography workflow processing. Information: (800)

Sinar has introduced the Macroscan Adapter,
which integrates into its modular camera system. A motorized stepping
device with an accuracy of 0.03mm shifts the Sinarback into four
positions so that four (or 16 in the 4-shot mode) exposures are
created, which are then combined with pixel accuracy by means of
integrated stitching software. Including moving objects, this is
the first time that digital photographs can be made with a resolution
of up to 19 million pixels. The Macroscan is suitable for subjects
like fabrics with fine structures, automobiles or reproductions
of works of art, all of which require the highest possible resolution.
The company also announced Sinar Unplugged, which serves as an interface
between the camera and computer. The Unplugged can be powered by
a battery or via a mains cable, and its core is a small device that
accepts the Sinar fiberoptic PCI card and converts its signal directly
for the PCMCIA interface of the latest generation of the Mac G3
PowerBooks. Information: Sinar AG, CH-8245 Feuerthalen/Schweiz Germany;
