The Passing of Fred Lorenzen
Fred Lorenzen, a loyal friend of Rangefinder magazine and WPPI recently
passed away. Fred was a sales rep for General Products for approximately
30 years and then he was a rep for Hartcraft Hardwood Frames until he
retired. Prior to these positions, he worked in sales with Gibson Greeting
Cards and General Mills. This news comes to us from Charles Wetmore, retired
photographer from Johansen Photography in Sacramento CA.
Patriotic Portraits are Up!
According to a National Public Radio report (December 10), Sears, Roebuck
says sales of its family photo portraits are way up this year. Since Sept.
11, more families are choosing the American flag as a backdrop for their
family portraits.

Special Kids Photography, Photographing the Child with Serious Disability
or Illness, in conjunction with the Picture ME Foundation. The author
of the book is very interested in talking with photographers who have

Fuji Donates $300,000
Minoru Ohnishi, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Fuji Photo Film
Co., Ltd. and Harry Watanabe, president, Fuji Photo Film, Inc. recently
presented a $300,000 contribution toward the establishment of the new
Fujifilm Medical Imaging Center for Women of Self Memorial Hospital.
Epson Expands Support for PIM Technology
Epson America is expanding support for PRINT Image Matching technology
by launching a dedicated web site, as well as making driver and software
updates available that include PRINT Image Matching support for select
photo printers. PRINT Image Matching technology ensures digital cameras
and printers work together to produce optimized prints automatically.
Since the technologys introduction earlier this year, several PRINT
Image Matching printers and digital cameras have been introduced by leading
manufacturers like Casio, Epson, Kyocera, Minolta, Nikon, Pentax and Sony.

provides in-depth, easy-to-understand information on PRINT Image Matching.

Valley Moulding Moves
Valley Moulding & Frame has moved its warehouse/showroom in Placentia,
Calif., to Anaheim, Calif. The new address is 807 E. Orangethorpe Ave.,

the com-panys current Orange County and Inland Empire customers
a local warehouse/showroom as well as expand its customer base from their

Leica Major Awards
Leica Camera celebrated this years season opening of Leica Gallery
in New York City with two award ceremonies. Marc Riboud received the Leica
Lifetime Achievement Award, Leica Cameras most prestigious honor.
Paolo Pellegrin received the Leica Medal of Excellence for his work as
a distinguished photojournalist. Both photographers have gained worldwide
recognition for their vision that has captured social themes ranging from
circus life to ancient cultural civilizations, and both recently had their

RF645 Wins Special Award in Japan
Kazuyasu Noguchi, president and CEO of Tamron Co., Ltd. has announced

DCS 760 To Go Aboard Space Shuttle
Kodak Professional has announced that NASA has chosen to carry the Kodak
Professional DCS 760 camera on board its upcoming STS108 space shuttle
mission to the International Space Station orbiting the Earth. The images
captured by the crew of astronauts with the DCS 760 will be used for research
and development of surveys and maps, and to capture internal images of
the space station and its crew members. More recently, NASA had been using
the predecessor of the current model, the DCS 660 digital camera.
Canon Gallery Has New Web Site
The Canon Gallery, a new web site that showcases outstanding digital images
from 10 of the worlds leading photographers, has been introduced
by Canon U.S.A. The site, www.canongallery.com, is Canon U.S.A.s
first online gallery and currently includes the work of Barbara Bordnick,
Robert Farber, Douglas Kirkland, Parish Kohanim, Co Rentmeester, Seth

Road America Offers Super Photo Pass for 2002 Races
Road America will offer a Super Photo Pass to a limited number of experienced,
serious amateur photographers for the 2002 race season, according to George
Bruggenthies, president. The $350 pass includes a four-day event ticket,
reserved parking and access to areas restricted to professional race photographers.
A preliminary interview and daily safety meetings are required. The Super
Photo Pass is available for all five major events at the Wisconsin road

Fujifilm PhotoPals is 10
This year marks the tenth anniversary of Fujifilm PhotoPals, the free
educational program, developed by Fuji Photo Film U.S.A. and Scholastic
Inc. For more than a decade, this program has successfully matched students
across the country for letter and photo exchanges. Bringing classrooms,
teachers and students together, PhotoPals provides great opportunities
to share teaching and learning experiences while supporting curriculum
goals for math, science, social studies, language arts, visual arts and
geography.
One of the new elements of the program is the Fujifilm PhotoPals web site,
www.fujifilmphotopals.com. This makes it even easier for teachers to access
curriculum ideas and offermore ways for students to interact with each

Timothy Combs to Head Fujis Graphic Systems Division
Timothy W. Combs has been promoted to vice President and general manager
of Fujifilms Graphic Systems, a division of Fuji Photo Film U.S.A.,
Inc. In this position, Combs directs all facets of the divisions
operational, sales and marketing activities in the U.S. market. Combs
succeeds Daniel Maffeo, who now serves as executive vice president of
the newly formed Enovation Graphic Systems, Inc., a national distribution
subsidiary of Fuji Photo Film U.S.A., Inc.
