Quantum Instruments Inc. has released the Quantum Battery 1 Compact, a bottom-mounting external battery for flash and digital cameras. The Battery 1 Compact has outputs for both short (Bantam "X"-series) and long (QBI "MM"-series) cords, attaches to the tripod socket on the bottom of a camera, has a "fuel gauge" display showing power remaining an charging level and an energy saving mode for longer shoots.

Gemini Electronics has released the Gemini 2000, a slide dissolve and programmer unit. The Gemini 2000 is Y2K-compliant and features continuously variable effects for smooth alternate, dissolve, fade, superimpose and freeze-frame multi-image effects. Two projectors can be controlled by linking them with standard RCA-type audio cables. Tone coding and playback can be handled through any cassette, open reel, or AV-synchronous tape recorder.

Photogenic Professional Lighting has introduced the PL47FS Focusing Snoot, a lighting tool that helps turn flat objects into exciting, multi-dimensional images. The device, which fits onto any Photogenic Powerlight or quick-change head, houses 311ž42" Rosco patterns, adds depth by enhancing the shape, color and texture of the image. Minolta Corporation has recently introduced two new variations of the company's 35mm telephoto zoom lenses, the Minolta AF Zoom 75-210mm f/4.5-5.6 II Silver and the Minolta AF Zoom 75-300mm f/4.5-5.6 II Silver. The former offers a 3X zoom ratio ideal for portrait, sports and landscape photography with continuous lens focusing from infinity to 3.6 feet (1.1 meter) and magnification of .26X without the need for a separate macro setting. The latter features a 4X zoom ratio, continuous macro capability for focus from infinity to 4.9 feet (1.5 meters) and provides a maximum magnification of .25X.

Yashica's new Samurai 2100 DG digital camera is a 2.14 Megapixel digital camera with a 4X optical zoom Lens. The high definition 2.14 million pixel Charge Couple Device (CCD) is coupled with a high-resolution zoom lens that has a center resolution of over 200 lines/mm. Taprell Loomis has released a new Custom View Folio Cover with Extenders that creates a photo panorama in a single visual sweep. The extender leaves come with a special CVC 80-2 extender cover and are affixed with pressure-sensitive tape. In a presentation of 4x5s, the extenders can triple the folio capacity from 8 4x5s to 24. Combinations of 4x5, 5x7, and 8x10 prints can be presented in a single folio. It is available in black only.

Rollei introduced the Rolleiflex 6001HG, a professional SLR for the medium format priced at $3440, suggested retail. It comes with a folding viewfinder hood, High-D-Screen focusing screen, 6x6/120 magazine, Zeiss-Planar 80mm f/2.8 HFT PQ, NiCad battery, rapid charger with power cord and carrying strap. It has the features of the 6001 model plus the ability to take an optional hand grip and a second shutter release button.

Kodak Professional has expanded its line of Portra films with Kodak Professional Portra 100 T Film for use in tungsten lighting. The film reproduces excellent skin tones and its improved reciprocity characteristics virtually eliminate the need for compensating filters during long exposures. Prints made after balancing lighting conditions other than 2300°K will have color reproduction similar to that of other Portra films. The new film is available in 120 and sheet formats and will replace Kodak Professional Pro 100T film in the U.S. and Canada.

Hasselblad has released the Hasselblad 30mm f/5.6 Aspherical. The ultra-wide-angle lens features the same superb optical performance as the 45mm and 90mm lenses for the Xpan and provides a panoramic view of 94° when used with the camera's panorama format.

Sinar Bron Imaging has released the Balloon Lamp and Pillar Stand 215 light stand. The 20-inch diameter diffuser made of Plexiglas disperses light similarly to a street lamp, illuminating 360°. The stand, replacing the Mini-Hazylight stand, has had its height adjustment mechanism upgraded with a crank gear for precise height adjustment. At 7 feet two inches, the stand is made of solid steel and has a platform with caster wheels with brakes attached for accommodating a power pack.
