Minolta Student Photography Awards
Minolta Corporation has awarded Fuquay-Varina High School student Marcy Teague with the First Prize for its second annual “Show Us Your World” student photography contest. Co-sponsored by National Geographic, the contest generated more than 5500 entries from high school students across the United States. New ProShots lab
Customation, Inc. in Michigan City, Indiana is the latest lab to become a ProShots system lab, enabling professional photographers to submit their film to labs equipped with ProShots hardware and receive back digital images that are electronically matched with the film. ASF Adds to Team
Applied Science Fiction, Inc. has added James Karlak to ASF’s management team. Karlak will manage the finance, administration, information systems and manufacturing operations departments. He will also oversee the rollout of the service and support operations of ASF as the company moves into production and commercialization of its Digital PIC technology. The launch of Neofoto.com offers photographers a more profitable way to sell stock images to ad agencies, designers, commercial venues and more. Hasselblad Zeiss Relationship
Victor Hasselblad, Sweden, and Carl Zeiss, Germany, have signed a cooperation agreement to further strengthen the Hasselblad medium format camera system’s leading position in image quality and versatility. Founder of Norman Norman Enterprises Passes Away
Bill Norman, founder of Norman Enterprises, passed away December 1, 2001. He was the founder and owner of Norman Enterprises, a manufacturer of professional photographic strobes and lighting, which he started when he was 20 years old. He received an honorary Master of Science degree in professional photography from the Electronic Technical Institute and was a member of the Professional Photographers of America. He later sold Norman Enterprises to Photo Control Corporation in May of 1973. Bill remained with Norman Enterprises and Photo Control until his retirement last January. Bill was well respected and considered an expert in the field of flash photography. He spoke extensively and wrote several books on the subject. He is survived by his wife Faye, his son, Thomas Kevin Norman and his two daughters, Stacey Lynn Orrill and Janelle Lynn McDonald. Epson Expands Support for PIM Technology

Epson America is expanding support for PRINT Image Matching technology by launching a dedicated web site, as well as making driver and software updates available that include PRINT Image Matching support for select photo printers. PRINT Image Matching technology ensures digital cameras and printers work together to produce optimized prints automatically Since the technology’s introduction earlier this year, several PRINT Image Matching printers and digital cameras have been introduced by leading manufacturers like Casio, Epson, Kyocera, Minolta, Nikon, Pentax and Sony. Leica Major Awards

Leica Camera celebrated this year’s season opening of Leica Gallery in New York City with two award ceremonies. On September 12, Marc Riboud received the Leica Lifetime Achievement Award, Leica Camera’s most prestigious honor. Paolo Pellegrin received the Leica Medal of Excellence for his work as a distinguished photojournalist. Both photographers have gained worldwide recognition for their vision that has captured social themes ranging from circus life to ancient cultural civilizations, and both recently had their work on display at the Leica Gallery. RF645 Wins Special Award in Japan

DCS 760 To Go Aboard Space Shuttle

Kodak Professional has announced that NASA has chosen to carry the Kodak Professional DCS 760 camera on board its upcoming STS108 space shuttle mission to the International Space Station orbiting the Earth. The images captured by the crew of astronauts with the DCS 760 will be used for research and development of surveys and maps, and to capture internal images of the space station and its crew members. More recently, NASA had been using the predecessor of the current model, the DCS 660 digital camera. Canon Gallery Has New Web Site
The Canon Gallery, a new web site that showcases outstanding digital images from 10 of the world’s leading photographers, has been introduced by Canon U.S.A., Inc., a subsidiary of Canon, Inc. Road America Offers Super Photo Pass for 2002 Races

Road America will offer a Super Photo Pass to a limited number of experienced, serious amateur photographers for the 2002 race season, according to George Bruggenthies, president. Timothy Combs to Head Fuji’s Graphic Systems Division

Timothy W. Combs has been promoted to vice President and general manager of Fujifilm's Graphic Systems, a division of Fuji Photo Film U.S.A., Inc. In this position, Combs directs all facets of the Division’s operational, sales and marketing activities in the U.S. market. Combs succeeds Daniel Maffeo, who now serves as executive vice president of the newly formed Enovation Graphic Systems, Inc., a national distribution subsidiary of Fuji Photo Film U.S.A., Inc.

Fujifilm PhotoPals is 10

This year marks the tenth anniversary of Fujifilm PhotoPals, a dynamic and free educational program, developed by Fuji Photo Film U.S.A., Inc. and Scholastic Inc. For more than a decade, this program has successfully matched students across the country for letter and photo exchanges. Bringing classrooms, teachers and students together, PhotoPals provides great opportunities to share teaching and learning experiences while supporting curriculum goals for Math, Science, Social Studies, Language Arts, Visual Arts and Geography.

One of the new elements of the program is the Fujifilm PhotoPals Web site, www.fujifilmphotopals.com. We are making it even easier for teachers to access curriculum ideas and offering more ways for students to interact with each other. Students will learn about photography and have the opportunity to share pictures with their PhotoPals and even create their own class homepage. Fujifilm PhotoPals are matched up with the same grade in another part of the country to share photos, lessons and activities. PhotoPals stresses the important role photography plays in all forms of communication, including letters, journalism and schoolwork. Within the curriculum are innovative lessons that strengthen the coursework of students in grades 3-6. Teachers will find activities, games and photo sharing ideas that teach about the environment and the important role photography plays in communicating ideas.

Drytac Names New Sales Manager
