• In Memorium: Dave Levine
Dave Levine, president of DNL Photo Packaging, makers of folders, frames,
albums and folios, died on May 31, 2003 after a brief battle with cancer.
He is survived by his devoted wife Sue and his loving children Brenda
and Donald. Dave began his business 28 years ago, working with his
father. He and his wife, Sue went on to build DNL Photo Packaging into
a successful company that serves photographers nationwide. Woo Yi,
who has worked for DNL for more than 15 years, was recently appointed
as general manager, ensuring that DNL would be able to continue to
provide the high standards of expertise and customer service that the
company has been known for throughout the years. Dave was a devoted
family man and a respected figure in the photographic industry. Rangefinder
CEO Steve Sheanin remembers his cousin well. “Although his passing
was untimely, he succeeded in having a great family, friends and business
associates and he was able to live life his way, doing the things he
loved most.” A memorial service was held in Dave’s honor
on Monday, June 9, at his home.

Agfa Launches International B&W Photo Competition
Black-and-white photography concentrates on the essentials. That defines
its particular charm and, at the same time, its inherent challenge. To
encourage photographers to embrace both its charm and its challenge,
Agfa recently announced “Action, Emotion & Memories,” an
international black-and-white photo competition being held from May 15
to August 15, 2003.
“
What we're looking for is pictures from the midst of life, with an eye
for atmospheres and emotions, for unforgettable moments,” said
Peter Lebovitz, Agfa senior marketing manager. “The top three winners
will find their competition photo and their name on the new packaging
of Agfa Multicontrast range photo paper starting in 2004.”
In addition,
each photographer, of the best twelve entries selected by the professional
jury, will be awarded a Leica camera. Competition rules
can be found under the heading Pro Photo & Labs at www.agfa.com.

Scholarship Fund
On March 14, 2003, Heidi Mauracher succumbed to cancer. All who knew
her and were inspired by her, will miss her dearly. “Teaching people
what I have learned within my craft of wedding photography to help them
more effectively communicate, is what gives my life significance.” This
is what Heidi told Dean Collins upon the completion of her first Training
CD with Software Cinema, one of several institutions that will support
the creation of the Heidi Mauracher Memorial Photographic Educational
Foundation. This Foundation is designed to generate donations for the
creation of scholarships to aid photographic students in need. For every
$35 donation to Heidi’s Foundation, Software Cinema will send you
Heidi’s Training CD, “Wedding Photography.” 100 percent
of the $35 donation will go directly to Heidi’s Foundation. ($5
shipping and handling charges apply). For more information and to make
