The camera manufacturer Sinar has made several announcements. First, in a logical evolution of the Sinar Digital Back with those of large format cameras, Sinar has developed the Macroscan. The large image circle of Sinaron professional digital lenses and the adjustment capabilities of large format cameras are utilized to their best advantage by the large imaging area of the Macroscan. Perfect wide-angle photographs can be made with the horizontal or the vertical format. Second, it has introduced the new Sinarback 22+, the only digital back in its class to offer a two-year factory guarantee, and the Sinar Macroscan Adapter. The adapter shifts the digital back by means of a motor, without vibration and with pixel accuracy. A finished image becomes available immediately, with a resolution of more than 18 million pixels and without subsequent manipulation. Finally, it has released its new catalogs, which can also be found at www.sinarcameras.com.

Foveon, the Silicon Valley-based producer and of image sensors, image-capture systems and photographic cameras announced recently its manufacture of the world's highest resolution Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor (CMOS)-based image sensor. The 16.8 million pixel (4096x4096) image sensor represents resolution and quality advances that were previously seen as unachievable for CMOS sensors. It is the first CMOS-based image sensor that exceeds the resolution and quality of Charge-Coupled Device (CCD) sensors. Foveon's 16 megapixel sensor captures almost 3 times the data of the 6 megapixel CCD sensors found in today's highest resolution commercially available professional digital cameras.
