Photo Imaging Education Association Decides
Theme for Annual Conference
“
Photo Education in a Digital World” is the theme for the Photo
Imaging Education Association (PIEA) annual educational conference in
Las Vegas, Nevada, February 12–15, 2004. Headlining the program
will be New York City fashion photographer Barbara Bordnick in “An
Evening with an Artist” on Friday, February 13. Bordnick began
her career in Copenhagen and Paris before moving to New York, where she
has been in high demand for her artful and creative fashion photography.
She recently completed Searchings—Secret Landscapes of Flowers,
a book published by Welcome Books.
Survey Shows Decline in Film Processing
The PMA Processing Survey Highlights and Overview through July 2003 found
that consumer film processing in the U.S. declined by 10 percent during
the year ended in July 2003. The decline in processing activity reflects
weakness in all four regions of the country. Rising sales of digital
cameras may be limiting traditional processing activity, particularly
since these cameras were present in one in five U.S. households at the
end of 2002.
Photographers Explore Digital Vision in New Exhibition
A new digital photography exhibition exploring the dynamic relationship
between light and shape is coming to New York this fall. The Art of Light & Shape
will showcase more than 60 images captured by some of America’s
most exciting professional photographers, including several Pulitzer
Prize winners, using Olympus digital photographic equipment.
The exhibiting
photographers’ work has appeared in such best-selling
books as A Day in the Life of Africa and in magazines ranging from National
Geographic to The New Yorker. The exhibition, which is free to the public,
runs in New York from Oct. 21–Nov. 9, and will travel to San Francisco
and Toronto in early 2004. The exhibition is co-sponsored by Olympus
America Inc. and Pictorico Inkjet Media. Information: (212) 261-4279.
